20-High Silicon Steel Mill from Primetals Technologies Starts Up at LY Steel in Loudi, China

Press Releases

Special Steel Mill

  • State-of-the-art split-type 20-high HZ mill designed and supplied by Primetals Technologies
  • Enables production of high-grade, ultra-thin silicon steel
  • Positions LY Steel Electromagnetic Materials among the top tier of the silicon steel market

Primetals Technologies’ split-type 20-high HZ mill has successfully started up at LY Steel in Loudi, Henan Province, rolling its first coil of high-quality silicon steel for new energy applications. Primetals Technologies supplied engineering, mechanical equipment, and commissioning services for the project.

The advanced HZ mill supports stable, large-scale production of ultra-thin, high-grade silicon steel. This new production line establishes a strong foundation for LY Steel in producing and developing high magnetic induction grain-oriented (GO) and high-grade non-grain-oriented (NGO) silicon steel.

High Performance

The HZ mill is an innovative split-housing ZR mill developed by Primetals Technologies, offering several advantages over conventional ZR mills. Its large gap opening allows for easier strip threading and smooth recovery after strip breakages. Flexible roll diameter configurations cover a wide range of production requirements, while the Double AS-U shape control system ensures stable rolling and improved productivity.

Additionally, the work rolls can be used throughout nearly the entire range without being limited by intermediate roll diameters, further enhancing operational flexibility.

A Leading Steel Producer

LY Steel Electromagnetic Materials is a subsidiary of Liangang Group, specializing in the research, development, production, and sales of GO and NGO silicon steel products. Liangang is a major global processing base for high-end, heat-treated medium- and thin-gauge sheets, a leading domestic producer of GO and NGO silicon steel materials and finished products, and a comprehensive supplier of specialty steel in central and southern China.

The company is recognized as a National Enterprise Technology Center and as a “Green Factory” in Hunan Province, is listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s 5G Factory List, and has received the industry’s highest number of “Excellent Awards.”
