- New converter suspension system for 255-ton LD converter (BOF)
- Commissioning within just 50 days
ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt and Primetals Technologies have successfully installed a new converter suspension system for the 255-ton LD converter (BOF) No.2 in Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany. The entire system was replaced and commissioned within just 50 days, ensuring the converter, which turns hot metal into liquid steel, can continue to operate safely and sustainably.
Strong Collaboration
Primetals Technologies conducted an engineering study to determine the optimal solution for ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt, resulting in a highly customized and cost-effective approach that maximized the continued use of existing converter equipment. Primetals Technologies was also responsible for equipment manufacturing and supply, as well as providing advisory services during construction, commissioning, and startup.
The project was completed on schedule thanks to strong collaboration between the project partners. “We met the tight schedule, and the converter—including the new refractory lining—was moved smoothly, all while production continued and without any safety issues. This was a powerful team effort. Many thanks to everyone involved for their dedication and expertise,” said Robert Richter, Head of Steel Plant at ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt.
