Stepless Reform: A New Design for Improved Coil Formation
The wire rod reform tub for rod coil reforming is a critical element of any rod mill's finishing end. Its purpose is to collect the rings from the controlled cooling conveyor into a well-formed, dense, and cylindrical coil package. Integrated ring distributor for further reduction in coil height. Minimized cycle time for the demands of high-production wire rod mills. For more information on the cooling conveyor, see the Morgan Stelmor® Controlled Cooling Conveyor from Primetals Technologies (link to page)
A new stepless reform tub design is now available to form the entire coil at an optimal height in the tub, taking full benefit of the ring distributor. The new design was developed to eliminate the coil drop from the iris fingers in a conventional reform tub to the coil plate. This drop could potentially deform the lower part of the coil, creating an offset coil package, which could then further deform during compacting. This new stepless design utilizes two interlacing coil plates at the transition from the upper tub to the lower transfer area to eliminate drops from the iris fingers to the coil plate. Stepless reform also eliminates potential marking and scratching of the coil. Accurate monitoring of the accumulation rate ensures descending control of the coil plate to maintain smooth and continuous coil collection.
Benefits of the Wire Rod Reform Tub
- Patented ring distributor minimizes coil height and eliminates stray rings that can get damaged during handling and shipping.
- The ring distributor coil ensures tangle-free payoff, dramatically reducing delays in downstream processing.
- Stepless reform further improves the reform area by removing the "drop," ensuring uniform coil formation and that the coil is always formed within the confines of the reform tub, enabling the most dense coil formation possible.
- Minimized cycle time for the demands of high-production wire rod mills .
