A Compact Block Customized to Increase Long Rolling Mill Productivity
The Morgan Vee Mini-Block from Primetals Technologies is a compact, versatile two- or four-stand mill that enables expansion through the use of multiple units for bar and rod mills. Morgan Vee Mini-Block mills have increased productivity by up to 50%, allowed the rolling of various diameter rods and bars, and dramatically improved the control of product dimensions through numerous installations across the world.
Ideally suited for mills producing a wide range of sizes and diameters, Morgan Vee Mini-Blocks support wire rod production between 4.0 mm and 26 mm in diameter and bar sizes up to 35 mm. When positioned after a Morgan No-Twist Mill, the Morgan Vee Mini-Block provides a dramatic increase in rolling rates, especially for 5.5 and 6.0 mm rod. The block's small footprint makes it ideal for retrofit projects, while its ability to be installed either upstream or downstream of the finishing mill allows mill operators to choose the benefits that make the most sense for their particular mill.
When used in place of conventional stands, Morgan Vee Mini-Blocks help minimize mill downtime through the use of carbide rolls and easy pass and roll changes. With a capacity of more thean 470 kN, the roll units can handle production of hard-to-roll alloys as well as thermomechanical rolling of carbon and low alloy steels. This ensures mills are able to make products with better mechanical and metallurgical properties. An upgraded version incorporating eDrive technology is available. Utilizing individually driven stands, eDrive provides infinite processing flexibility per stand, helping reduce both capital and operational expenditures for steel mills.
