Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill: High Durability and Versatility

The Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill is a highly efficient and advanced technology used in the production of steel wire rod. It is designed to improve product quality and reduce operational costs by eliminating twisting in the rolling process.

Increased rolling speeds mean greater production, but a mill's promised capacity should be proven, not merely theoretical. For Primetals Technologies, that proof exists across the world. More than 100 strands featuring the improved vertical design of the Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill for wire rod mills have demonstrated speeds up to 120 m/s and sustained, reliable production rates of more than 150 tons/hour. With the ability to roll grades ranging from carbon steels to tough-to-roll alloys and stainless steels, the Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill can be configured with any combination of 250, 230, or 160 mm ultra heavy-duty roll housings depending on the mill's requirements. All major drive components of the Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill are below floor level, improving visibility and convenience for mill crews. Most mill piping is also below floor level, reducing wear and tear. Upward-mounted, alternating left- and right-hand facing roll stands with integral bevel gear units are secured to a heavy, vibration-absorbing base: providing lower noise levels.

The Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill offers the added flexibility of front entry design, ensuring no restrictions on motor size, easier access to the motor, and the ability to disconnect selected line shafts when not in use. This reduces power consumption and minimizes wear and tear on high-speed components, resulting in lower maintenance and operating costs. High-quality sealed roll housing drive components provide reduced maintenance and longer product life. The ultra heavy-duty roll housings exceptionally handle high separating forces. With a capacity of more than 470 kN, the roll units can handle production of hard-to-roll alloys and thermomechanical rolling of carbon and low alloy steels. This ensures the ability to make products with better mechanical and metallurgical properties.

The eDrive technology elevates the Morgan No-Twist Mill to new levels of performance and flexibility. By incorporating individually driven stands powered by advanced electrical drives and motor technologies, the system ensures tension-free production through a virtual gearbox, optimizing grain structure and product quality. The innovative design minimizes motor power requirements and operational costs while enabling thermomechanical rolling at temperatures as low as 750°C. With roll housings offering 10–15% greater capacity than conventional systems, the No-Twist Mill can achieve finer grain refinement and superior rolling precision. Additionally, the modular quick-change car arrangement allows for rapid size changes, ensuring maximum mill utilization and efficient production transitions. The result is a cost-effective, high-performance solution that reduces maintenance inventory, lowers power consumption, and expands product offerings in the market.
